Health Coach Naturopathic Clinic in Sudbury, Ont., serves a vast area of Northern Ontario and includes patients from Manitoba and Quebec.

It is a one of a kind multidisciplinary clinic with 20 professionals and support staff who have adopted an integrative approach to whole health, utilizing cutting edge diagnostic techniques, treatments and clinical nutrition, in conjunction with botanical and homeopathic medicine. The result is an individualized treatment plan to target the cause and not just the symptoms of illness.

The 3,500-square foot facility in Sudbury’s scenic South End treats approximately 250 patients a week, according to co-owner Dr. Peter Jebreen.

“Health Coach treats patients with a variety of conditions including allergies, acute illness, and health & wellness. Many patients are seeking treatment for cancer and other chronic diseases, a result of our modern world conditions,” says Dr. Jebreen. The clinic is equipped with state of the art facilities for testing and treatment. It also includes a gym and personal trainer.

The clinic has a good rapport with many local medical practitioners and is able to exchange pertinent medical information with patient’s request.

Jebreen notes about 50 per cent of the clinic’s patients do not have medical benefit coverage that extends to naturopathic medical treatments and the clinic “consequentially does pro bono work.” Patients find exceptional value in the services and many patients willingly pay.

“We believe in helping out the community and often donate a lot of services.” That commitment to community service is evident in the staff of the clinic. Whereas it has become increasingly difficult over the years to attract medical practitioners to live and work in the North, Jebreen notes many of the clinic’s staff are former Sudbury residents who took their training and education in the south and returned home to work and live.

Dr. Allan Price says the clinic is particularly renowned for its outpatient intravenous treatments. The treatments include high dose Vitamin C, multi-nutrients, immune system fortifiers and many others specifically designed for each patient.

Dr. Price says the clinic has good rapport with oncologists and often patients are referred to the clinic by doctors who have nothing more to offer in the way of treatment.

In addition to the intravenous treatments, the clinic offers cancer patients other evidence based adjuvant and alternative therapies such as Iscador therapy, botanicals and homotoxicolgy.

“The Health Coach Clinic receives many professional referrals but for the most part referrals are by word of mouth, usually friends and family members,”

“Currently, the clinic is expanding to incorporate an addictions treatment service” says Jebreen. Our five elements of addiction treatment will include a personal care manager for each patient, a psychologist, a naturopathic doctor, a medical doctor and a pharmacist.

Plans are underway for a separate addiction centre, Jebreen says.

There is an urgent need for improvement in delivery of healthcare services to Canada’s rural communities. IHP applauds the efforts of the Health Coach Clinic team; they are delivering an exceptionally high standard of outpatient primary care in a community desperate for their work, and simultaneously reducing the burden on an already overburdened conventional healthcare system in their surrounding community. Their philanthropic efforts to deliver services to those not able to afford them also deserve tremendous complement.
